Shaima Saeed is a Water Resources Engineer who has built a multidisciplinary career spanning water resources engineering, hydroinformatics, geospatial science, and artificial intelligence. She has contributed to projects with international organizations and research institutions, including the Nile Basin Initiative, FAO, and UNESCO Category 2 research center, advancing drought assessment, sustainable land and water management, environmental monitoring, climate resilience, and large-scale mapping initiatives across Africa and beyond.
Driven by a passion for solving sustainability challenges, Shaima combines Earth observation, GIS, remote sensing, spatial analytics, computer vision, and artificial intelligence to transform complex geospatial data into actionable insights that support evidence-based decision-making for stakeholders. She is particularly interested in harnessing emerging geospatial and AI technologies to strengthen water security, support climate adaptation, and make spatial information more accessible and actionable.
Shaima holds dual master’s degrees: an M.Sc. in Hydroinformatics, Modelling and Information Systems for Water Management from the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands, and an M.Sc. in Water Resources Engineering from the University of Khartoum, where she also earned her B.Sc. in Civil Engineering.
