Simon Wolfgang Musaeus is an international geospatial leader with more than three decades of experience building mapping programmes, land administration systems, and content businesses across Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America. He has held senior executive roles with COWI, Leica Geosystems, and Hexagon’s Geospatial Content Solutions division, where he led the development of 3D aerial content programmes in Europe and national elevation and imagery initiatives in South Africa, Colombia, and the Netherlands.
Throughout his career, Simon has focused on using high-quality geospatial data to advance the public good: improving land rights and cadastre, supporting resilient infrastructure planning, and enabling climate- and disaster-related decision-making. He has led large multicultural teams, managed P&Ls for businesses of several hundred staff, and worked at the interface of governments, industry, and development partners.
Simon is the founder and former President, and now Vice President and Board Member, of the European Association of Aerial Surveying Industries (EAASI), and a co-founder of the Association of Geospatial Industries (AGI) in India. He has represented industry in global fora, including UN-GGIM, the World Geospatial Industry Council, and Geospatial Knowledge Infrastructure initiatives, with a strong emphasis on ethical, long-term data partnerships.
Now based in the United Kingdom as Principal of SWM Advisory, he advises geospatial organisations on strategy and data-as-a-service models, and coaches sector leaders. Simon holds a Doctorate in Business Administration, an engineering degree in surveying and geodesy, and speaks German, English and Spanish.
